Sunday Solutions: GET HEALTHY CHALLENGE

From the time I was young I was taught in primary about how to keep your mind and body healthy.  As I am getting older and wiser  I am realizing there is a lot of truth to what I learned in primary.
I often hear people talk about losing weight, what is something I can do to see quick results?
My husband repeatedly says "You have to eat healthy and exercise, it's the best way to be healthy!"
(I married handsome and smart.)

I never paid attention cause I never really needed to, but back to the older and well ya my body has changed a bit since I was young and could eat anything I wanted anytime I wanted.
Suddenly the words from primary and then the statement made by my  husband kept coming back to me.

I have always believed but now I am learning it first hand, it's the best diet plan out there.  It is relatively cheap (no one is making a profit off it), no pills, special creams or oils.  It's very simple and summed up in 3 words.  Are you ready?

It's called the Word of Wisdom, you can read more about it in the  Doctrine Covenants section 89.   https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng
Happy Sunday and good luck on your way to being a healthier happier you!

Fire Fire Fire

Fire Safety, are you ever to young to learn it?  No,  you should educate yourself and those you care about on FIRES and the danger they are.

For Activity Days we visited the local fire station.  I called on Sunday and explained to the firefighter we wanted to come and have them teach us a thing or two about fire.  Then, on Tuesday we took the girls and went to the fire house.  The fire fighter's met us at the door and let us know they had a special presentation for us!

We went out back to a little house (they use for drills).  It was small but the fire fighter explained what these girls could do to  keep themselves and their families safe in case of a fire.

At one point we started noticing smoke coming down the stairs.  Within minutes the whole house was filled with smoke (white vapors like they use in haunted houses) but it certainly gave the effect.

Previously he told us the mailbox was our meeting place.  The girls all ran out to the mailbox and he showed us how to account for each family member.  Then a fire fighter came over and fully geared up then crawled in the way the do in a real fire.

This activity was not only amazing, but very educational to the girls as well as the leaders.  The fire fighters were more than happy to talk to us and then gave us a tour of the fire truck, that thing is full of stuff (no wonder it's so big).  To send us off they turned on the whistle and let the girls squirm a minute.  What a valuable lesson we learned that day!
A few tips we learned:
                                 1.  Have a meeting plan.  Do drills and talk about how and where you would
meet in case of a fire in your home.
                                 2.  Change the batteries on your fire alarm once every 6 months rather you need
them or not.  And test periodically to make sure it is working.
                                3.  Be careful when you are in the kitchen cooking or using fire.  NEVER play
with matches.  If someone else is let an adult know.
                               4.  Keep your bedroom doors closed at night.  If your fire alarm goes off  do not
open the door feel to see if it's hot and then escape through a window.
Call your local fire station, these fighters are trained and willing to share their info with you.  It could save your life!

BeeYOUtiful

I am the Faith in God (Activity Days) leader in our ward. I love it. I love the girls, I love their excitement, and I love the blooming testimonies they are developing and already have. These girls are wise beyond their years (8-11 years old). I learn from them and I hope they are learning from me. Tween's (as society says) are at a very crucial and influential age. They are making decisions that could really effect the rest of their lives. I hope as they attend Activity Days they will know: 1 "I am a daughter of God, he created me and has a purpose for me.(Love yourself), 2 Everyone I meet is also a Child of God and I should treat them with kindness and love (Love others) 3 My Heavenly Father loves me (And I love him). I decided it was time to do an activity that hits those 3 things. We have a young married sister in our ward that is beautiful. The first time I met her she stood out to me as someone who knew where she was going. I got to know a little about her and she is equally as beautiful on the inside. She is currently serving on as queen on a royalty at the local University. So after a lot of thought and prayer I decided she was the one I wanted to speak to the girls. She accepted and went right to work on her talk. I was so excited when she sent me a link of ideas and I began to love her even more! It made me so happy to know as she was preparing her presentation she was helping me with ideas (see she is amazing). Here is the link she sent me:   http://ldsactivitydayideas.blogspot.com/2013/03/what-makes-you-beautiful-activity.html?m=1
I LOVED this what a great idea to incorporate the 13th article of faith into it. (The girls need to memorize all 13 articles of faith to earn the Faith in God award, so we might as well dive into the longest one). The girls LOVED this activity. We began with our special guest speaker and she gave the girls such valuable information about how they are daughters of God and should love and take care of themselves, but also love and be kind to those around them. She taught them what beautiful meant and how important it is to love yourself and not be ashamed to say it (confidence not cocky). She was the perfect speaker for this and I was grateful the Lord allowed me to see she was the right resource. Next the girls made crowns (Thank you to the very kind and generous ladies at Burger King I asked for 20 and they gave me 22 and insisted I not pay). I came home spray painted them gold and then bought stickers and jewels to decorate the crowns. The girls loved it, and the best part was our sweet speaker right down on the floor in her cute white pants and crown, helping and working with these girls. I hope the importance of this topic will resignate with these young sisters because every one of them is a Bee YOU tiful child of God!

General Conf. 4 VT Sisters...............................

At General Conference time I like to take notes  in a journal/notebook.  WHY????
1. It keeps me awake and alert
2.  I can look back at it
3.  If I write something I am bound to remember it.
I found these cute journals on clearance at Michael's for .50cents.
I like to take them to the sisters I visiting teach as a suggestion and help for their General Conference experience.

Homemade Cleaning Supplies and Ratings

Homemade cleaning supplies, hmmmm?  Sounded strange to me to, but I have a good friend tell me about making a few things and how awesome it is.  What???? Well being the curious stay at home girl I am I decided to try it.  Everyone loves to save a little money right?  So I made laundry detergent, fabric softener and dishwasher powder.  How did this work for me?
This does not show price and savings or how to make it,  just ingredients and what I thought of each:
Laundry Detergent #1:  Cup Borax,  Cup Washing Soda, Bar Fels Naptha Soap, Mix all and put
TBS. in washer with load of laundry.
Laundry Detergent #2:  Cup Borax natural laundry soap, Cup baking soda, Cups Arm and
Hammer Washing Soda, 1 Fels Naptha, 4 gallons water.
Dryer Softener #1:            1 Bottle of conditioner (hair cond.), water, and cups distilled
                                        vinegar
Dryer Softener #2:           Vinegar in each load in washer (does not come out smelling like vinegar.
Dishwasher Soap:          Cups Borax,  Cup. Arm & Hammer Washing Soda,  Cups Lemi Shine
                                        Cup Kosher Salt.

OK NOW FOR THE RESULTS BY ME:

PRODUCT MAKING PROCESS RESULTS Star Rating
Laundry Detergent #1 Easy if you can use measuring cups Clothes come out clean and easy to add to wash no mess. *****
Laundry #2 It takes time to mix and add ingredients. Boiling water and stirring Clothes came out clean. But it is time consuming to make and sloppy when putting in washer. **
Detergent #1 Easy again adding ingredients I felt like my clothes came out with a weird feel to the clothes **
Detergent #2 Super Easy It works good, but I hate to have to add it in the washer (I have to do it during the rinse cycle.) ***
Dishwasher Soap Moderately easy. I add all ingredients and leave in a bowl on the counter for a few days. I stopped to stir periodically as the Lemi-Shine makes it clump if not. FABULOUS: I made 160 pre measured bag for my dishwasher. Easy and dishes come out with NO water spots. *****

Again this is not the exact recipes or pricing just how it worked for me.  If you would like the information before I post e-mail me @ tcschneiter@yahoo.com .

INSURANCE

From one friend to another can I offer you advice?  Well I am going to and you don't have to take it but it's worth checking in to.

I received a notice in December stating our house payment was increasing unless we wanted to pay $xxx.xx amount of dollars.  I don't know about you, but I don't have extra money just hanging out in my bank account in December.  Well the good news is they gave us till March 1st, the bad news is March 1st came and went without extra money in our account.  So guess what our mortgage went up!

This caused a painful reality.  My wise and very HOT husband wanted to sit down and discuss our bills. For 12 years I have managed the financial spending in our relationship and truthfully I like it that way.  But he was questioning a few things, so we began my torture"had a meeting" looked at our bills, and especially our mortgage.  He wanted to know WHY it went up?  My response was I don't know just let me pay the bills and forget about it.  He would not let the issue go.  So I got on the phone with the bank that evening,(just before they closed for the evening) and kindly asked for some explanations What I learned was our insurance was increasing causing the mortgage payment to go UP!  The bank lady quickly became my friend, thank you Lisa for explaining this to me and going above and beyond to suggest I shop around for insurance.  The next morning I started calling around and what I discovered was frightening.  When we purchased our home in 2011 our insurance was $xxx in 2012 it increased $230 as a result our mortgage went up, and now in 2013 it rose $90 more causing another boost to our payment.  It made no sense to me but, my new friend (the bank lady, from my call last night)  suggested shopping around.  Well after a million phone calls and some very kind and patient individuals talked me through things we got our home insured for $xxx a year with better coverage. K just so you know my insurance went down $175 from 2011, you do the math and see it save us $495 a year.

So what I learned from this lesson is be ASSERTIVE.  With your insurance talk to different providers periodically and see if you are getting the best deal for what you are paying for.  I am so relieved and grateful we were able to have "a meeting" and Kyle questioned things, (Like I ever thought I'd say that) we are not seeing a rise but a decrease in our mortgage.  People please be aware, ask questions, and protect yourselves.

I learned the bank was my friend, as I spoke to Andy my new buddy yesterday and he explained, the bank  want the same thing we do. Just cause your paying more for insurance does not make the bank more money, it makes the insurance company more.  So shop around and do what feels right. No one is going to do it for you, so ask questions and become aware and take charge of your situation.

Start TODAY

Just one question, do you have a journal?  Do you write in it?  I am realizing more and more the importance of keeping records.  If you do not do anything else for the next generation and your family,  KEEP A JOURNAL!  So if you don't why not?  My life's boring! I don't know what to say!  It's embarrassing!  I don't have time.  K, I can't think of one answer that is worth NOT writing in a journal. A Friend shared a web site with me and can I just say this is Journaling for dummies  everybody.  It gives you a question and that is how you start.  In the end you can bind it and save it for a future time.  To cool try it you will love it.

52 week money Challenge Idea for 2013

I love this idea.  I think if you can you should try it.  How cool would that be at the end of the year.

** I Did not make this VERY cool thing, but happy someone did.  Notice line 49 is incorrect, it says 1125 but should say 1225.
**One more suggestion thanks to my little sis, start with week 52 first and work backwards.
              This increases your interest
And by December you will be grateful.

REACH OUT TO THE 1

Can I please just tell you a little something that has been AmAzIng for me.  I was recently called to the primary presidency in my ward.  A calling I have never had.  I have been in activity days, primary teacher, & sec.  but never in the presidency.   Well don't worry my 2nd week I was doing sharing time.  And can I say this is right up my alley.  My cute little girl said "Mom I think you were made for this calling!"  Well at least I have 1 fan.  So I jumped in to see if I would sink or swim.  I loved doing this, I just completed my 4th Sunday and I am alive to tell about it, and even elated with what happened.  Soo . . . I had the strongest prompting to reach out to the children who did not attend once during the 3 weeks prior to my 4th sharing time.  I first got permission from my very awesome president (who I love already and am excited about the things I have and will learn from her.)  I took the little handouts for each week and on wrote a letter explaining what we learned each week.  As follows:

Week 1:  We learned about the importance of choosing and being a good friend.  My hand out was a black boot cut with my cricut with nickels and a quote.  (I also included the story Pres Hinckley told of two boys and the value of having good friends)  http://www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8115&Itemid=200138

Week 2:  We learned about the good and bad of media.  We had a don't pet the rattle snakes lesson by Elder Sorenson.  I made a snake with a small chico stick attached as the rattle. http://perglersprimaryplace.blogspot.com/2012/07/reading-listening-and-looking-at-things.html

Week 3:  We learned about keeping the sabbath day holy.  And invited a member of the  bishopric to come in and we made him a Sunday, discussing the good things we can do on Sunday and putting yummy toppings on.  Then including things not appropriate for Sunday and asked would this ruin your Sundae?
http://www.sugardoodle.info/Sabbath%20Day/Would%20this%20ruin%20your%20Sundae.shtml
I gave them little ice creams cut out with my cricut with a dum dum attached to the back.  I also attached suggestions of things to do on Sunday.

SO I typed this up with a little letter saying We miss you at primary and hope to see you soon.  Next week we will be playing a game, it will be from the stories above.

I placed the goodies in a brown bag and delivered to those who we have not seen in the last 3 Sundays.  I was completely overjoyed when 7 of the 15 children showed up to church.  I cannot tell you how happy that makes me, to know just a little love and encouragement and we can be blessed with these children in our primary.  I would strongly encourage you to become whatever it may be but reach out to those who others may give up on.  It is amazing!

Peaches

If you read and liked Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, or like easy fun reads, CHECK OUT PEACHES.  I loved them and the really great part is you follow the characters through a 2nd book The Secret of Peaches, and Love & Peaches.

In a Ya-Ya Sisterhood for teens, Peaches combines three unforgettable heroines who have nothing in common but the troubles that have gotten them sentenced to a summer of peach picking at a Georgia orchard.

Leeda is a debutante dating wrong-side-of-the-tracks Rex.

Murphy, the wildest girl in Bridgewater, likes whichever side Rex is on.

Birdie is a dreamer whose passion for Girl Scout cookies is matched only by her love for a boy named Enrico.

When their worlds collide, The Breakfast Club meets The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in an entirely original and provocative story with a lush, captivating setting

5k 101

I started something brand new today, lets just say this is HUGE for me!  Exercise has always been a 4 letter word in my book.  But I am turning over a new leaf.
I found this 5k 101 online.  A friend of mine told me about Couch Potato to 5k years ago and I thought that's nice for other people.  Well lately a couple of my sisters have been doing it and I have to try it if they are.
So I went and bought myself a new pair of exercise shoes from ROSS for way cheaper than you can get them anywhere.  They are cute and I want to wear them.  So this morning I started.

First thing ya need to go to Itunes and download the podcast.  There are many, but this is the one I chose.   http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/couch-to-5k/id448474423?mt=8
There is a guy named Todd that guides you through this podcast.  He first suggests you take the
Accountability Challenge:  which means get a friend or two to do this with so
you have to be accountable.  I chose my HOT
Husband and because of his work schedule we are
going at 4:50 am, nothing like spending the top
of the day with your best Friend.

Website dailymile.com :  He suggests you get on this, I don't understand it but when I do you will be
                                          informed for sure.

                                                                                                   facebook 5 k101.com: I guess go on
                                                                                                                                        & like this on fb.

K so in 8 weeks I (yes me who DOES NOT run) will be ready for a 5 k.  I don't know how far that is, but I am excited.  And the best part is they want you to do this ONLY 3 times a week for 30 minutes.  Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!
